Historical Timeline

1956: Dr. Zoli Gatesy, a toolmaker escapes his native country Hungary for the UK as a refugee.

1966: Establishment of a company in the UK building tools and injection moulding for the toy industry.

1969: Decided to look for alternative manufacturing locations.

1971: Toly Products in Malta was founded with a commitment to employ 40 people.

1975: A corporate decision was taken to specialise in the production of compacts for face powders, blushers and eyeshadows.

1986: Andy Gatesy joins Toly as Sales and Marketing Director.

1987: Toly's UK sales and international network of agencies were reorganised. At the same time Toly set up its own company in the USA in order to tap the US market.

1989: Toly France started its operation in Paris. The number of employees amounted to over 100 in the UK and 300 in Malta.

1990: Toly invested in new state-of-the-art technology in order to bring in-house, a U.V. lacquering line. As a result, Toly started diversifying into fragrance packaging.

1991: Andy Gatesy is appointed Chairman of the group

1994: Toly BV was opened as a new sales office in the Netherlands to cover the Benelux and German speaking markets.

1995: Toly achieves the ISO 9002 award.

1996: Toly experienced rapid growth having diversified its key customer base to include prestigious international brands such as Chanel, Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder, Avon, Boots and The Body Shop.

1996: Toly forms a strategic alliance with Geka Brush of Germany to provide global customer support and a range of complementary products.

1997: Toly rebuilt its manufacturing plant in Malta, investing in an air-conditioned, clean room assembly.

1998: For the first time Toly sells more than GBP 20 million worth of products from its portfolio of packaging.

2000: Toly extends its links with Asia and purchases a share of Metapack.

2001: All Toly companies were consolidated into a formal group - Toly Group International Aps. - based in Denmark.

2001: The Toly/Geka alliance accepts Sinwa (Japan), its Japanese partner, as a full alliance member.

2002: Toly installs its second U.V. lacquering plant in Malta.

2004: Toly achieves ISO9000/2000 certification by Moodys

2005: Toly opens a joint venture manufacturing plant in Shenzhen China.

2006: Toly expands in Asia with the opening of 3 new offices:

  1. Toly Asia in Hong Kong
  2. Toly Korea in Seoul
  3. Toly India in New Delhi

2006: Toly Products Ltd. in Malta celebrates its official 35th Anniversary of successful operations in Malta.

2007: Toly moves its development site from the UK to Malta and relocates its UK offices to Marlow.

2007: Andy Gatesy is honoured by the Malta Government and made an honorary member of the National Order of Merit for his service to Malta.

2007: ISO 9001 certification awarded to Toly China

2008: Toly opens a new manufacturing plant in Dehradun, India to cater for the Indian cosmetics industry.

2008: Toly invests in a joint venture in South Korea to form TAP - Toly Airless Packaging.

2009: Toly-Geka alliance terminated. However, Sinwa of Japan remains a strategic alliance partner.

2009: Toly opens a new US office in Waterbury, Connecticut.

2009: Toly Asia opens a Shenzhen office to support logistics and quality for its trading business.

2009: Toly opens a sales office in Italy to focus upon an Italian customer base.
